The Buddhist Path: View, Meditation & Action

This workshop will explore basic Buddhist teachings about meditation and the new perspective it brings to our experience. The session includes an introduction to Buddhist thought, initial meditation instruction and practice, and time for discussion. Lhakthong Sönam (Beverly Sanford) has been studying and practicing Buddhism for over a decade. She has been ordained to teach in the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism by Anam Thubten Rinpoche, and is associate teacher with the Princeton Buddhist Meditation Group.

This is an intensive hands-on workshop for those who already play or wish to learn to play the Native American Flute. It is a chance to deepen your experience with Native Flutes and your relationship with music in general. Flute players with all levels of experience are welcome in this supportive and non-critical environment!  This workshop focuses on building confidence playing the flute in many settings and styles and expressing your inner voice. Topics include: •The elements of music - melody, harmony, rhythm, texture, and silence
•Basic Native Flute modes, techniques, and ornaments
•Basic improvisation techniques: call-&-response, solo over drone & repeated patterns  •Song forms such as A/B/A contrast, blues, and rounds.  Expressing yourself though music is as natural a means of communication as speaking.
